as the vice president met with the nra at the white house as part of his gun task force. >> a teacher at that high school is being called a hero to convince the 16-year-old shooter to put down the gun. it happened a couple of hours north of los angeles. a neighbor noticed the boy walking into the school and called 911. the boy shot one classmate, and missed another before the teacher talked him down. that teacher actually got hit in the head with one of the pellets. police arrested him. he apparently stole the shotgun from his brother and reportedly was suspended last year for making a hit list of targets. there is supposed to be an armed guard at the school, but he was late after getting stuck in the snow. >>> to the vice president's gun task force, later today he's meeting with video game executives. yesterday he met with the nra and that didn't go so well. the gun lobby blasted biden saying it will defend second amendment rights to own guns. biden confirmed he won't wait until the end of the month and wants background checks for every gun purchased without exception. >> universal b

president's task force will meet with a number of groups this week, including the nra tomorrow and reps from the entertainment and video game industries on tri of this week and the vice president will give recommendations to the president at the end of the month and is said to be considering measures well beyond an assault weapons ban. martha: carl cameron joins us now live from washington. set the scene for us this morning. >> reporter: this is a clear attempt by the white house as they've stated to jump start new gun legislation after the shooting rampage that left 20 children dead at an elementary school in connecticut last month. biden's gun violence tax force could make its recommendations, in fact as soon as next week. they are in a hurry and make no bones about it. there are a variety of things going on. today he'll talk with victims' groups and gun safety organizations. thursday biden's task force will meet with sports men and hunting groups as well as the nra who are against the ban of any weapons. biden has suggested and the president is interested in banning military style assault

. this is something the president has said should be left to the schools, the nra says should be part of a national plan. it will be interesting given the poll numbers. the entrenched interests in washington not on the president's side. we'll see what he does there. one other thing i want to note. the president talked about how immigrants in this country should be allowed to go to school and then become the leaders of the next generation, not be deported. well, remember, it was his administration, this is the bush administration here, deportations of illegal immigrants, it was the obama administration that angered many latinos, and especially latino interest groups by increasing the number of deportations. the president is hoping now that this actually gives him some credibility as he tries to negotiate an immigration reform package with republicans. and anderson, one of the things we have seen since the election is the republicans know the math. they see the demographics of this country. they realize they have a crisis. they cannot be a viable national party if they keep getting such a tiny percen
